Sam Hiley died in Rochdale Infirmary on 15th April 1929. He was 21.

Sam was the oldest child of Harold and Ethel Hiley, and brother to
Edith, Agnes, Mary and Henry. He was born on 21st March 1908 at
174 Hollins Road in Walsden.

At some time between April 1911 and December 1913 Harold, Ethel and Sam moved to 72 Victoria Street in Littleborough. Although a distance of only about four miles this must have seemed like a big move. All the previous four generations had lived their whole lives in Walsden or Todmorden and never left that area.

In 1927 Sam and Agnes were diagnosed with Tuberculosis.
